The Diode Dynamics SS3 SAE/DOT Type GM5 Fog Light Kit is CAD-designed to use existing mounting points on compatible GMC Sierra models. This guide walks through bracket assembly, installation, wiring, and aiming of your new SS3 fog lights.

Installation Tools
- 10mm socket
- Ratchet
- Wire strippers/crimpers (if tapping a circuit for backlight power)
- 5/32” Allen key
Time Required: Approximately 1–2 hours.
Installation Instructions
Step 1 – Assemble bracket to pod
Install the supplied nuts into the pod housing with the nylon facing inward. Attach the bracket to the pod using the supplied screws and washers. Make sure the bracket is in the correct orientation (TOP and BOTTOM orientation shown in the guide).
Tighten the screws so the pod retains its position but can pivot with force for aiming.
Step 2 – Remove factory fog lamp
Reach under the front bumper to access the fog light and unplug the fog lamp connector.
Using a 10mm socket, depress the plastic tabs on the three fog lamp mounting grommets and gently pull the lamp out the front of the bumper.
Step 3 – Transfer mounting grommets
Remove the three fog lamp mounting grommets from the OEM lamp and install them onto your new SS3 mounting bracket.
Step 4 – Loosely install bracket and pod
Loosely install the bracket and pod assembly in the fog pocket. Do not snap in the three fog lamp mounting grommets at this time, as the pod will need to be removed to lock in final aiming.
Step 5 – Connect wiring
Plug the SS3 into the factory fog light harness using the included DT wire adapter. Test function. If the light does not turn on, try flipping the connector 180°.
If equipped with backlight functionality, connect the backlight power wire to a fused 12V source (such as a parking light or sidemarker circuit). T-Taps are included for this purpose.
NOTE: Power source must be fused. Do not connect directly to the vehicle battery.
Step 6 – Repeat on opposite side
Repeat Steps 1–5 on the other side of the vehicle.
Aiming Instructions
Step 7 – Position vehicle
Park your vehicle 25 feet away from a wall or garage door on a level surface.
Step 8 – Measure mounting height
Measure the distance between the ground and the center of your SS3 pod. This is your mounting height.
Step 9 – Mark cutoff line
Mark the mounting height on the wall using tape. Add another piece of tape four inches below the mounting height. This is your fog light cutoff line.
Step 10 – Aim the pods
Aim your SS3 pods so that the top of the beam pattern aligns with the cutoff line mark.
Step 11 – Final tightening
When desired aiming is reached, gently remove the assembly to fully tighten the 5/32” Allen bolts. Do not overtighten or use power tools.
Step 12 – Reinstall assembly
Reinstall the assembly on the vehicle to complete installation. There will be a slight gap between the bracket’s bezel and bumper opening. Ensure the lamp is centered in the fog pocket with even gaps around the bezel.
