Stage Series C1 vs. C1R LED Pods: What's the Difference?

The Stage Series C1 and C1R LED Light Pod feature powerful 10-watt LED chips, and custom-engineered TIR optics for remarkable performance in an ultra-compact design.

The Stage Series C1 and C1R LED Light Pod can be mounted virtually anywhere on your vehicle, including places where LED Light Bars and larger light pods are not an option. You can also find these lights in our popular HitchMount LED Pod Reverse Kits that are designed to fit any two-inch trailer hitch.

Due to their similarities in size, mounting applications, and light output, distinguishing between the Stage Series C1 and C1R LED Light Pod can be a challenge. In this blog, we'll delve into the unique features of these two compact LED pods to help you understand the difference between the C1 and C1R.

SSC1 & C1R LED Light Pod Shared Features

While there are several key differences that set Stage Series C1 and C1R LED Light Pod apart, it is important to note that they do share two common functionalities that make them such popular options in our Reverse Light Kits.

High Power White Main Beam

The Stage Series C1 and C1R LED Light Pod both have a high-power white main beam that provides a powerful additional reverse light to your vehicle.

Thanks to the included wiring harness, this main beam automatically turns on when your vehicle is shifted into reverse, seamlessly adding an impressive amount of light output to your factory reverse lights.

This additional visibility allows you to have greater confidence when backing up at night.

Backlight Function

Stage Series C1 and C1R LED Light Pod feature a distinctive backlight that can be used as an additional running light while driving.

The White Stage Series C1 LED Pod is available in an array of backlight color options including white, amber, blue, and red. The C1R LED Light Pod exclusively features a red backlight color specifically designed to complement its additional high-power 4th brake light.

Even though the backlight function uses less power than the main beam of the light pods, the LED still fully illuminates the TIR optic to shine a noticeable red accent light for extra visibility.

C1R LED Light Pod Features

If you're looking to add a running light or simply increase your reverse light output, then the Stage Series C1 LED Pod is perfect for you.

However, if you're looking for more functionality from your LED Pods, the C1R provides additional features that could make it the better choice for you. Below are the unique C1R LED Light Pod features that set it apart from the Stage Series C1 LED Pod.

Fourth Brake Light

The C1R LED Light Pod features a high-power red light in addition to the bright white reverse output and distinctive backlight feature of the Stage Series C1 LED Pod.

This added red beam provides you with a functional fourth brake light that activates anytime the brakes are applied, providing increased brake signal visibility to drivers behind you.

Safety Strobe Feature

In addition to the fourth brake light, the C1R LED Light Pod provides an additional Safety Strobe feature. This feature flashes the red beam three times for attention-grabbing visibility when the brakes are applied.

This strobing function utilizes an internal timer that only allows the C1R LED Light Pod to strobe if the brakes haven't been pressed for 10 seconds. If the brakes are pressed within the 10-second window, the strobing feature will not activate.

This prevents constant strobing of the C1R LED Light Pod during stop-and-go traffic.

Common SSC1/C1R LED Light Pod Questions

What happens if you're backing up and then hit the brakes with a C1R?

If your vehicle is in reverse and you activate the brakes, the white main beam will remain on even if the brakes are applied as seen below.

Is there a version of the SSC1 LED Pod that only has the reverse light function without the running light?

If you wish to only use the white main beam of the SSC1 LED Light Pod, you can disable the backlight by cutting the blue wire as shown below. This will allow you to disable the running light and only use the LED Pod as a reverse light.

Conclusion

Both the Stage Series C1 and C1R LED Light Pod deliver impressive light output and provide you with better visibility to other drivers. If you're looking for just a high-powered reverse light and running light, the SSC1 is perfect for you.

However, if you want the additional functionality of the fourth brake light and optional Safety Strobe feature, the C1R LED Light Pod is the better choice. Either way, they are both fantastic options when it comes to upgrading the light output of your vehicle.
