Trunk lights are used in the trunk or cargo area to illuminate the space at night. From the factory, the bulbs are incandescent, lighting up in a yellowish color.

By changing the factory bulb to an LED, you can illuminate the area with a much brighter light, and add a pure white, luxury look.

The installation is 100% plug-and-play, just replace your factory bulb.

SMD2: Compact design, with two 5050-size Epistar SMD chips mounted directly to the base connector.

HP3: One high-power SMD under a diffusing lens for truly even output (no hotspots). Constant current design and air-cooled base for superior reliability. Features dual contact pins and nonpolar function for easy installation.

HP5: Four high-power SMDs, under a diffusing lens. Just like the HP3, but run at higher power, with integrated copper plating for superior heat dissipation, allowing maximum brightness.

SMD12 Board: This is an LED panel, fitted with 12 5050-size Epistar SMD chips. Comes with wedge-style adapter for direct installation. Plug the adapter into the bulb socket, then just stick the board in place with the mounting adhesive pad. This may need to be mounted to the exterior of your trunk light housing.

Flexlight: This is a 20-inch, low-profile LED strip, with 30 5050-size Epistar SMD chips. Comes with wedge-style adapter for direct installation. Mounts in your trunk area, flexible and waterproof, for maximum brightness.

Fitment. All bulbs use a quality inject-molded 194/168 T10 terminal, with a full-size base connector and proper pin alignment, designed for exact replacement of your factory 194 bulb. Just remove the old bulb, and plug in the new LED.

PLEASE NOTE: SMD12 Board is an LED board, which may mount to the exterior of your trunk light housing. FlexLight is an LED strip, which plugs into your factory trunk light socket, and mounts directly into your trunk area using included adhesive strips or velcro. If you would like a direct replacement bulb, we recommend SMD2 or SMD5. We offer SMD12 Board and FlexLight for those who want to maximize brightness.

Included in your order is ONE BULB.

These LEDs are available in crisp, bright colors including White, Warm White, Blue, Red, Amber, and Green.

We strongly recommend white or warm white for the best visibility.

Diode Dynamics offers several brightness options so you can choose what fits you best.  These options are listed by the design and the lumen output of each bulb:

SMD2: Slightly lower brightness than OEM bulbs, but still provides the crisp, modern color of LED.
HP3: Slightly higher brightness than OEM bulbs.
HP5: Nearly triple the brightness of stock OEM bulbs!
SMD12 Board: Much brighter than OEM bulbs. These are bright!
FlexLight: Extremely bright compared to OEM bulb.

Lumens: BUYER BEWARE! Most sellers just provide "calculated" lumen numbers, based on the maximum potential brightness of the LED chips on the bulb. For example, if a bulb has five 10-lumen chips, they will rate it at 50 lumens. However, this is not accurate, as the design of an LED bulb does not get rid of heat fast enough to run the LEDs at maximum.

These "calculated" lumen ratings are much, much higher than the true, measured light output, so it will look like competitors' bulbs are brighter than ours. This is because Diode Dynamics does not provide inflated "calculated" numbers; we believe it is misleading. We test the actual brightness of the bulbs in our lab, to provide real lumen output measurements. Our measurements are accurate, but they are usually much lower than the misleading "calculated" figures. Please click here to learn more about LED brightness measurement.

LED Components. Diode Dynamics uses only the highest quality LED chips in the production of its bulbs. This means we use only brand-name suppliers such as Epistar, Cree, Osram, and Samsung.

While Diode Dynamics bulbs may look the same as others on the market, most copycat bulbs use economy-grade LED chips in order to reduce costs. This greatly reduces the reliability and overall brightness of the bulb when you compare it to Diode Dynamics.

Construction. Although LED technology allows for extremely long bulb life, the market is flooded with cheap LED bulbs that fail prematurely due to inferior construction. The worst enemy of LEDs is excessive heat, and when bulbs are not designed properly, they do not disperse heat as well, leading to premature failure.

Off-brand, cheap bulbs exhibit poor solder uniformity, high levels of flux in the solder, uneven chip placement, low-gauge terminal wires, poor assembly, and bulbs held together with inferior adhesives. At best, solder joints will crack and fail on low-quality LEDs after a few weeks of use. In the worst case, these bulbs can damage housings as the extra flux and adhesive evaporates and creates a residue on the lens of the housing.

Diode Dynamics bulbs are produced with modern, computerized equipment, and only the best materials, to ensure complete uniformity, high quality, and long bulb life.

All Diode Dynamics products come with a 30-day satisfaction guarantee and a 3-year limited replacement warranty. For more information, please view the Warranty Information page.

  1. Better than factory Review by Josh

I installed a stage 2 light (white) in a 13 Altima. The light looks much better and has more usable light compared to the stock one. (Posted on 11/25/13)

  2. nice Review by Jason

If you want to upgrade your trunk light, i would go with the stage 4, for sure, it is big and bright. I put this in my 2013 Altima, no regrets. Easy install with the same plug as the factory bulb. Thanks DD (Posted on 1/8/13)

LED Bulb Installation

Congratulations on your purchase of premium Diode Dynamics LED bulbs! You will soon experience a modern LED look on your vehicle.

This universal guide will assist in the installation of LED bulbs on any vehicle. There are more installation instructions, including videos, available on our website at

You can also contact us at any time via email or phone if you need any assistance.

Please note that this serves only as a guide, and Diode Dynamics is not responsible for any damage or loss caused by installation. By installing these products, the user acknowledges and agrees to be responsible for any risk and damaged caused. Our award-winning, worry-free warranty only applies with proper installation of the items, as described, and does not cover installation error

First, you will need to access the factory bulb. Usually, this can be done simply by using a Diode Dynamics Installation Tool or other small flathead screwdriver, and carefully popping the clear lens off of the map, dome, trunk, or license plate light. The lens is almost always simply held in by small clips, and usually you can find a small slit on one side, where they are meant to be removed.

Some license plate lights also have screws to access the bulb.

Once you have removed the factory bulb, simply replace it with the new LED bulb. If it does not work at first, simply flip it around and try again. It needs to be installed in the correct direction.

Most vehicles will use two types of bulbs for the interior:

                Wedge (194)                        or            Festoon (31mm, 36mm, etc)

Wedge/194 Bulbs: When installing wedge bulbs, make sure you also adjust the pins on the end of the bulb, in order to ensure that the bulb makes contact in the socket. Simply pull the small metal pins out and away from the plug on the LED bulb. The bulb may not work properly if the pins are not making full contact in the socket, and every socket is different as far as how tight it is.

Festoon Bulbs: Sometimes, a slight adjustment of the socket will be needed in order to ensure a good, secure fitment on the new LED bulb. You may need to either bend the tabs on the socket, holding the bulb, farther out or in to accommodate the new LED bulb. Gently push the tabs out or in until they are at the desired width for the new LED bulb to fit in snugly.

LED Boards: In order to get a brighter light in the socket, we sometimes recommend the use of LED boards along with an adapter. Simply unplug the factory bulb and plug the board's adapter into place. Then, stick the board into any position possible. Hold in place for 5-10 seconds to ensure adhesion. You may need to mount it on the outside of the lens, especially for some trunk lights.

First, you will need to access the factory bulb. Look in your owner's manual for information on changing the bulb.

When you have the factory bulb uninstalled, simply plug in the new bulb and twist to secure it in place. If it does not work the first time, flip it around in the socket, if possible. Be sure to check to make sure it works before reassembling your headlights or tail lights.

If you purchased LED Resistors to solve the problem of hyperblinking, please refer to the Resistor Installation video on our website,

If you purchased a flasher to solve the problem of hyperblink, turn on your hazard lights and follow the clicking noise until you find the source under your dash. Unplug that factory flasher, and replace it with the new LED flasher.

First, you will need to access the factory bulb. Look in your owner's manual for information on changing the bulb.

When you have the factory fog light bulb uninstalled, simply plug in the new bulb. Depending on the size of the bulb, the fitment may be tight, as LEDs are usually slightly larger than their stock replacements.

Be sure to check to make sure it works before reassembling your vehicle. If the bulb does not work, you may have an issue with polarity. Please try the same bulb on the other side, and contact us with the results.

If you purchased LED Resistors to solve the problem of bulb out warning, please refer to the Resistor Installation video on our website, If you purchased plug-and-play resistors, simply plug one end into the factory socket, and connect the other end to the LED bulb and install as normal.

If your LEDs do not work when you try to turn them on, please first re-read the guide and make sure everything is properly connected. Be sure to adjust the pins on the bulbs whenever possible, to make sure that the bulbs are being properly powered in the socket.

If the LEDs are still not working, please visit our Troubleshooter on our website. This troubleshooter will walk you through steps in order to resolve any problems you may be experiencing. We are very sorry for the trouble, but we will do everything we can to help you get everything working as soon as possible.
