Prepare For Inclement Weather With Our LED Fog Lights

With winter upon us, it’s time to make sure you have reliable fog lights. Driving in fog or other inclement weather conditions with poor performing fog lights can make it harder to see and increase the odds of an accident. A quality set of LED fog lights from Diode Dynamics will help increase your visibility and help keep you safe even under the worst weather conditions.

Here at Diode Dynamics, we are dedicated to offering the finest automotive LED lighting options on the market. We have been growing and evolving with the aftermarket automotive LED industry since 2006, the same year Lexus launched the first production series LED headlight in their LS-600h. As the industry has continued to advance, we have done the same, by hiring engineers and taking over the production of many of our products. Now, over a decade after we first opened our doors, we are proud to be producing some of the highest quality LED bulbs in the country.

Our team of engineers have studied hundreds of different bulb designs in order to come up with a design that is superior on all levels. Many brands in the LED industry just look at top selling products and copy the designs, slap their name on it, and call it a day. We don’t want to just make any old LED bulb that you find on eBay or Amazon, we want to make the best LED bulbs on the market. We have designed our LED fog light bulbs to give you dramatically increased light output that is focused and is extremely easy to install.

We are also proud to be one of the only American manufacturers of aftermarket automotive LED bulbs. A majority of the US based companies that sell LED fog lights are simply reselling bulbs from overseas. Our SLF LEDs are manufactured and tested in our St. Louis facility to ensure high quality construction. Because we control every step in the production of our SLF bulbs, we are able to ensure that our bulbs are using high quality components and are assembled with care and attention to detail.

Unlike high and low beam headlight bulbs which direct light straight ahead of your vehicle, fog lights serve a different purpose. Fog lights are typically arranged in a narrow beam pattern that shine light downward to the road directly in front of the vehicle. When driving through heavy fog without these lights, it can be very difficult to see as the bright lights shining ahead produce a significant amount of glare. If you’ve ever tried to see further in the fog by flipping on your high beams, you know that fog can decrease your visibility when it’s brightly illuminated.

Fog is basically a low hanging cloud. The small airborne water particles in fog can act almost like mirrors in terms of their ability to reflect light. This means that when your headlights shine into fog, a majority of the light output produced by your lights will strike the airborne water droplets and will be reflected right back towards your vehicle. So the more light you point towards the fog, the more glare the fog will cast back at you, and the lower your resulting visibility will be.

To remedy this, fog lights are designed to emit their light towards the ground instead of straight ahead. This helps to focus the light towards the road instead of into the fog. So instead of shining light straight ahead into the fog, your fog lights will focused light on the road directly ahead of you instead. That’s why fog lights have such a narrow beam pattern, so you’re avoiding as much of the fog as possible while still illuminating the area directly ahead.

Fog lights are important, especially if you regularly find yourself driving in inclement weather. Typically fog lights are recommended during conditions when the visibility drops below 100 meters. Many drivers will use their foglights in place of their daytime running lights (DRLs). This has led to some areas restricting when fog lights can be used to avoid blinding other drivers.

Luckily our SLF fog light bulbs have a street legal output. While many companies boast about their high lumen figures, lumens are not as important as people might think. One bulb can have ten times the lumen output of another and the latter bulb can still outperform the “brighter” bulb. This is because the focus is more important than the output. An unfocused fog light will just produce more glare instead of a focused beam pattern. We design our bulbs with their functional pattern in mind, rather than just to produce as much light as possible.

Our SLF LEDs are designed to offer a powerful OEM grade solution. The bulbs are far more compact than most LED options on the market, while still offering incredible output. Their compact size led us to design our bulbs with the LED located exactly where the filament would be on an OEM halogen bulb. This helps our bulbs interact perfectly with your existing fog light housing so their beam pattern functions exactly as intended. We achieve this by using a special process known as ray tracing, which ensures that the light source is in the optimal position so its rays can interact with your fog light’s optics.

We offer our SLF LED bulbs in both cool white and yellow color options. For those looking for a brighter fog light, the cool white option will project a clean 6000K cool white light. Our 3000K yellow lights will offer superior contrast to help you see even under the worst conditions. This is because our eyes are more attuned to yellow light and the yellow color makes it easier for our eyes to determine contrast and see the road. Yellow is a very popular option among the JDM enthusiast market.

Many of our competitor’s yellow bulbs will have more of a greenish tint. This is the result of using cooler white LEDs. Cool white LEDs tend to emit a more bluish light. When these manufacturers shine light with a bluish tint through a yellow lens, you end up with an unattractive greenish colored light. Click here to learn more: Why Do Yellow LEDs Look Green? When we first started producing LED fog lights, we got around this issue by using warmer white LEDs. These LEDs naturally had a more yellowish light, which resulted in a more yellow light after passing through the lens. While this solution did end up producing a superior light to the option offered by our competitors, we were still searching for a yellow light without the need for a lense. After some intense searching, we were able to source pure yellow LED chips. Using these chips in our fog lights meant that we did not need any lenses to get a bright brilliant yellow light.  This is just one way that we are able to quickly evolve our LED bulbs to stay ahead of the competition.

Installing our LED fog lights in your vehicle is an incredibly simple process. Whether you are using our multicolor bulbs or our SLF bulbs, the installation process features a true plug and play set up. Our bulbs will fit perfectly in place of your existing bulbs and all of the circuitry needed to ensure our LEDs will work flawlessly with your vehicle's power system is built directly into the bulbs’ drivers.

You can easily order our SLF bulbs based on your vehicles bulb size and install them yourself in your garage. We currently offer our LED fog light bulbs in 16 of the most common automotive bulb sizes. If you are unsure what size bulbs your vehicle uses, we have an easy to use vehicle finder so you can find your bulb size in seconds. You can also use our website to find an authorized dealer near you if you would like to find someone to install your new Diode Dynamics bulbs for you.

One huge advantage of our LED lights is their long lifespan. If you regularly use your fog lights, your halogen bulbs can burn out after a year of use. OEM halogen bulbs tend to last anywhere from 400 to 1000 hours. This means that you can quickly burn through bulbs because long drives in the fog could eat up almost 1% of their lifespan at a time.

LED bulbs have an extremely specialized construction. They do not rely on a glowing filament to produce light, but instead use a special semiconductor known as a diode which emits light in response to electron movement through the diode. This extremely energy efficient form of light production allows LEDs to last much longer than a halogen bulb. All of our LED bulbs are designed to last at least 40,000 hours.

This means that you could use these lights for over 10 hours every day for 10 years before they reached the end of their lifespan. Furthermore, all our products go through extensive testing, so you don’t have to be worried about your LEDs failing prematurely. We have an inhouse laboratory with advanced testing equipment.

We test our driver circuitry to ensure they can handle the equivalent of years of power spikes simulating a vehicle's alternator turning on, a common cause of overloaded LEDs. Our overload protection and anti flickering circuitry holds up against the abuse. We also use environmental testing chambers to cycle our bulbs between -40 degrees F to 185 degrees F to ensure that they can handle any weather conditions you might face.

We also offer a three year warranty on all of our LED bulbs. We know that manufacturing defects can happen, so we are happy to offer our customers an extra reassurance that their lights last. If you experience any issues within three years, we will happily replace your lights. Because a 3 year period is less than 30,000 hours, our lights should never fail naturally in this period even if you use them almost constantly.

So if you are interested in finding the best fog lights for your vehicle, you’re in the right place. Here at Diode Dynamics, we make only the best automotive LEDs in the country. Don’t settle for the knock offs and second rate bulbs you see on eBay and Amazon, especially when your safety is at stake. If you want to increase your visibility and drive safely no matter what conditions you are driving through, you need our high performance SLF LED fog lights.
