7443 XP80 is a direct replacement for any 7443-size incandescent bulb. This is one of the brightest bulbs we carry, as a clear improvement over halogen lighting.
The installation is 100% plug-and-play, just replace your factory bulb. The bulb may blink faster since it uses less power, and your vehicle thinks the bulb is out- to fix this, please see "hyperblinking" section below.
Each of the four sides of this bulb contains three 5W-rated chips, and the top is fitted with four more under a projector lens. This is the brightest self-contained automotive LED bulb on the market, and is housed in an aluminum casing with a textured finish for maximum heatsinking properties.

Lumens: BUYER BEWARE! Most sellers just provide "calculated" lumen numbers, based on the maximum potential brightness of the LED chips on the bulb. For example, if a bulb has five 10-lumen chips, they will rate it at 50 lumens. However, this is not accurate, as the design of an LED bulb does not get rid of heat fast enough to run the LEDs at maximum.
These "calculated" lumen ratings are much, much higher than the true, measured light output, so it will look like competitors' bulbs are brighter than ours. This is because Diode Dynamics does not provide inflated "calculated" numbers; we believe it is misleading. We test the actual brightness of the bulbs in our lab, to provide real lumen output measurements. LED Components. Diode Dynamics uses only the highest quality LED chips in the production of its bulbs. This means we use only brand-name suppliers such as Epistar, Cree, Osram, and Samsung.
While our bulbs may look the same as others on the market, most copycat bulbs use economy-grade LED chips in order to reduce costs. This greatly reduces the reliability and overall brightness of the bulb when you compare it to Diode Dynamics.
Construction. Although LED technology allows for extremely long bulb life, the market is flooded with cheap LED bulbs that fail prematurely due to inferior construction. The worst enemy of LEDs is excessive heat, and when bulbs are not designed properly, they do not disperse heat as well, leading to premature failure.
Off-brand, cheap bulbs exhibit poor solder uniformity, high levels of flux in the solder, uneven chip placement, low-gauge terminal wires, poor assembly, and bulbs held together with inferior adhesives. At best, solder joints will crack and fail on low-quality LEDs after a few weeks of use. In the worst case, these bulbs can damage housings as the extra flux and adhesive evaporates and creates a residue on the lens of the housing.
Diode Dynamics bulbs are produced with modern, computerized equipment, and only the best materials, to ensure complete uniformity, high quality, and long bulb life.
The turn signals on most vehicles will begin to blink fast (hyperblink) when LED bulbs are installed. This is because the new LEDs will use less power than the original bulbs, so your vehicle thinks that the bulb is out and warns you by hyperblinking.
This phenomenon will be the same for every LED bulb on the market- there is no such thing as a "no hyperblink" LED bulb, even though some companies advertise them as such.
Flasher Replacement: Replacing the flasher relay, the module that controls blinking speed, is the easiest option to correct hyperblinking. You can remove the flasher on your vehicle, which is a small relay module under the dash, and replace it with a new flasher designed for LEDs. You will only need one flasher for your vehicle, whether you are replacing just one pair or both sets of turn signal bulbs (front/rear).
Resistor Kit: If you prefer not to change the flasher, you can add resistors to the bulb's circuit, and mimic the power consumption of the original bulb, returning the vehicle to normal turn signal speed. Resistors are a universal fix for any vehicle. Our resistors are 50w, 6 ohm, and come with extra-long connection wires for easy install. If you have both front and rear LED turn signals, you should purchase one set for each pair, to create enough resistance for the whole turn signal circuit. The installation itself takes only 10-15 minutes, and involves making two simple connections. Everything you need is included in the kit.

I have tried a few different 7443 LED bulbs in my 2009 Subaru Forester. Some didn't even fit in the socket, while others fit, but weren't bright enough, or did not produce a wide enough beam pattern. I wanted to improve the brightness and visibility over the stock bulbs, but I was hesitant to spend this much on bulbs, since many cheaper bulbs are available.
I was not disappointed with the XP80s. I have seen bulbs that are more expensive (that I haven't tried), but these are definitely brighter than any bulb I have tried. They produce a nice wide beam pattern, so they make good use of the factory reflectors, maximizing brightness at all angles. The colour is a nice rich amber, and it looks like DD has done a good job at heat dissipation, which is absolutely critical for high-power LEDs. You get what you pay for. (Posted on 5/14/16)

I recently purchased this for my FR-S to work with the Tail as tun module and have working tall reverse lights. This product met and exceeded my expectations. Who new 500 lumens meant I would be able to see EVERYTHING behind me when backing up. This LED is the brightest thing I have seen when it comes to leds in factory vehicles and I am glad that I purchased it because living in a heavily wooded area has its downfalls but backing up no longer does. I bought these to replace the tail lights on my Honda 929. I don't ride much at night but I need to be visible in the day time. These bulbs did not disappoint. I’m one of those people that research the snot out of an item before I commit to a purchase, and what bothered me the most about researching LED tail lights was lack of information. Of course everyone claims their bulbs are bright, but most do not supply measurements to back that up. Also, why does no one provide a reference? What Lumens value do regular incandescent tail light bulbs have? If the LED’s are not significantly brighter why would I spend close to $100 when I can buy regular bulbs for a fraction of the price? Ok, so after quite a bit of reading, from what I can see a regular incandescent 7443 tail light bulb gives off about 440 Lumens of light, most LED bulbs do not even come close to that and if they do, then are labeled as oversized so there is no guarantee they will fit in the housing.
Time to install them. Because my bike has two bulbs in the same housing only inches apart it was easy to see the difference by installing just one LED bulb and doing a visual compare. First off install was a breeze. The LED bulb is only a few mm longer that the stock bulb. Second, on the brightness front I would say that the LED is as bright in its regular state and the incandescent is when the brake lever is squeezed. The when you squeeze the brake lever, it gets really bright. Absolutely no comparison to the incandescent bulb! The only con I can identify is that it’s a little less bright when viewed off center, not by too much but it is noticeable. Maybe just because it’s so bright if you are directly in back of the tail lights. In the end the product looks to be very well made and functions as described. If you need bright these bulbs will not disappoint you.

Initially I had ordered the 7440 11W Hi-Power LEDs. DD emailed to confirm my satisfaction, which I advised I thought they would be brighter. DD informed me, those are used to have an LED equivalent to the stock bulb. If I order the 7443 XPG10 I would get an extra bright light. Boy, they were not kidding. These lights are very bright, I'd estimate 3-4 times brighter than my stock bulbs. These are well worth the price, if you're looking for some serious brightness. Tail light LEDs are a direct replacement. Just change the bulb! You will not need any resistors or other accessories.
Remove your factory bulb
- 1. Access your tail light bulb. You may need to pull back the trunk/cargo carpet and/or unscrew the visible nuts holding the light in.
- 2. Remove the socket from the tail light by twisting counterclockwise.
- 3. Remove the factory bulb by pulling it out of the socket.
Install your new LED bulb
- 1. Plug new LED bulb into socket by pushing it into place. Make sure it is firmly installed.
- 2. Test the bulb to ensure proper function. The bulb should come on half brightness for parking lights, and full brightness for brake. If it does not, try removing the bulb, rotating it, and reinstalling.
- 3. Insert socket back into tail light, and reassemble as necessary. That's it!
