Diode Dynamics LED Conversion Kits include all of the LED bulbs you need to replace the incandescent bulbs in your vehicle, for interior and license locations. It has been tested in your specific vehicle, for perfect fitment, and no guesswork! No modification is required for installation, you simply replace the bulbs!
By using the ordering options on this page, you can create your own mix-and-match kit by making the proper selections on each stage, or choose one whole kit that you prefer. Simply change the quantity to "0" for any bulbs that you do not wish to purchase.
The product pictures are professionally taken, at the same camera settings, in order to provide an accurate idea of what the bulbs will look like, in terms of brightness compared to the factory bulbs.
Diode Dynamics offers several brightness options so you can choose what fits you best. These options are listed by the design and the lumen output of each bulb.
Choose a design with a higher lumen output to increase the brightness.
All brightness levels are for general reference only, and apply only to the use of white LEDs. Please see the note below regarding the use of colored LEDs.
PLEASE NOTE: SMD12 Board is an LED board, which may mount to the exterior of your trunk light housing. FlexLight is an LED strip, which plugs into your factory trunk light socket, and mounts directly into your trunk area using included adhesive strips or velcro. If you would like a direct replacement bulb, we recommend SMF2 or SMF6. We offer SMD12 Board and FlexLight for those who want to maximize brightness.
Lumens. BUYER BEWARE! Most sellers just provide "calculated" lumen numbers, based on the maximum potential brightness of the LED chips on the bulb. For example, if a bulb has five 10-lumen chips, they will rate it at 50 lumens. However, this is not accurate, as the design of an LED bulb does not get rid of heat fast enough to run the LEDs at maximum.
These "calculated" lumen ratings are much, much higher than the true, measured light output, so it will look like competitors' bulbs are brighter than ours. This is because Diode Dynamics does not provide inflated "calculated" numbers; we believe it is misleading. We test the actual brightness of the bulbs in our lab, to provide real lumen output measurements. Our measurements are accurate, but they are usually much lower than the misleading "calculated" figures. Please click here to learn more about LED brightness measurement.
These LEDs are available in many crisp, bright colors. White and warm white are the most popular colors, for a modern look with maximum visible light.
You can also select blue, red, green, or amber to add a unique look to your interior. Please note- when ordering these unique colors, we recommend moving to the next-brighter stage for acceptable light output.
LED Components. Diode Dynamics uses only the highest quality LED chips in the production of its bulbs. This means only brand-name suppliers such as Epistar, Cree, Osram, and Samsung.
While Diode Dynamics bulbs may look the same as others on the market, most copycat bulbs use economy-grade LED chips in order to reduce costs. This greatly reduces the reliability and overall brightness of the bulb when you compare it to Diode Dynamics.
Construction. Although LED technology allows for extremely long bulb life, the market is flooded with cheap LED bulbs that fail prematurely due to inferior construction. The worst enemy of LEDs is excessive heat, and when bulbs are not designed properly, they do not disperse heat as well, leading to premature failure.
Off-brand, cheap bulbs exhibit poor solder uniformity, high levels of flux in the solder, uneven chip placement, low-gauge terminal wires, poor assembly, and bulbs held together with inferior adhesives. At best, solder joints will crack and fail on low-quality LEDs after a few weeks of use. In the worst case, these bulbs can damage housings as the extra flux and adhesive evaporates and creates a residue on the lens of the housing.
Diode Dynamics bulbs are produced with modern, computerized equipment, and only the best materials, to ensure complete uniformity, high quality, and long bulb life.
All Diode Dynamics products come with a 30-day satisfaction guarantee and a 3-year limited replacement warranty. For more information, please view the Warranty Information page.
Immediate difference, even in daylight Review by Dan
Price Value Quality
I ordered one dome light and two reading lights (Cool White (6000K)/SMF6 (94 Lumens)) for my 2015 Forester. The order was placed on the 10th and arrived today, on the 13th. It took me 10 minutes to install all three bulbs - it's just that easy. These are literally p&p. Check to ensure the bulbs are inserted with the correct polarity, though.
Even in the daylight these things make a significant difference. The light is brighter and cleaner than the stock bulbs. I closed the garage door and tested the bulbs out in the dark and I'm just blow away at how much better the lighting is. It was not my plan to do so, but I think I'm going to look at replacing the rest of the bulbs in the car. (Posted on 5/13/16)
Excellent products Review by Greg

I purchased the Build-Your-Own LED Kit for my 2014 Subaru Forester and made the following selections
Dome: Board SMD12 Cool White
Map: Board SMD 12 Cool White
Door: 194 HP3 Cool White
License: 194 HP3 Cool White
Trunk: FlexLight White
The door and license plate lights (194 HP3 Cool White) are very easy to install the hardest part is getting the housing open and removing the factory bulb. In the Diode Dynamics videos they warn about the factory bulb being very hot and I can honestly say it VERY VERY HOT!!! Let the factory bulb cool down or wear gloves when removing it. The LED clicks in effortlessly and looks amazingly bright and wonderfully white. These are fabulous light bulbs and they do an amazing job. This was money well spent.
The map light and dome light (Board SMD12 Cool White) are LED light boards. With 12 LEDs on each board, and a power supply which fits where the bulb was and provides power to the LED board. The two most difficult parts of this installation were the removal of the cover for the map light and dome light and connecting the LED board to the power supply. The connector between the power supply and LED board is VERY VERY TINY and I found it very frustrating to get the two parts to click together. If the connector were a bit larger this would be much easier. All told even with the difficulty of the tiny connector it only took me about 20 minutes to get the LED board installed in the drivers side map light. The passenger side went much quicker because now I knew how to do it.
While one LED board is more than enough light for the back seats I think it would be possible to fit two LED boards into the dome light if the power supply had two connectors instead of just one. Are you listing to me Diode Dynamics? With two LED boards inside the dome light the rear seat would be more evenly lit. In addition when the dome light is turned on with one LED board installed it kind of looks like the dome light has a burned out bulb on the opposite side. Also when the light is turned off you can see the LED board on one side but the other side is empty which looks very non symmetrical and is a bit odd to the human eye and perception. Is there any reason, heat, electrical, why someone could not put two LED boards into the dome light?
After a few days of having the LED board in the dome light the non symmetrical appearance was driving me nuts so I ordered the (Dome: 31mm SMF6 Cool White LED) light to replace the LED board. What’s the difference you ask? The difference is the 31mm SMF6 Cool White LED mounts directly in the center of the dome light just like the factory bulb and gives the symmetrical appearance of a standard light while also producing the incredible bright and white light of a LED bulb.
For the trunk or cargo area I chose the FlexLight White which is sting of 30 LEDs on a long flexible cable. The sting of LEDs is about 20 inches long and puts out an astounding amount of light. Hooking it up to the rear cargo light is very easy and again the hardest part was getting the light housing out of it's mounting. The physical connection between the cargo light and the FlexLight is also very easy. The truly difficult part of this is where and how to mount the FlexLight and how to hide the cable. When I purchased my Subaru Forester I had the interior and exterior of the vehicle treated with a non stick chemical so now NOTHING will stick to the interior of the vehicle, not electrical tape, not duct tape, NOTHING will stick to the plastic interior components. Ideally I would like to mount the FlexLight to the roof of the cargo area but I have to figure out how to run the electrical line and how get the FlexLight to stay in place. If I ever come up with a solution I will let you know.
All things considered this modification to my Subaru Forester was very easy only took a hour or so and most of that was due to my lack of experience taking apart the interiors of Subaru’s. I believe this was money well spent and I would definitely do it again. If you hate your current dome and map lights putting LED’s from Diode Dynamics is an excellent choice and a very easy modification to perform. (Posted on 9/24/15)
2014 Subaru Forester Cool White LED interior upgrade Review by Rob White
Price Value Quality
Let there be Light!....I upgraded my 2014 Subaru Forester 2.5i Touring' map lights to a pair SMF6 (94 lumens ea.), dome light to a pair of SMD12 boards (118 lumens ea.) with a festoon dual output adapter and the cargo area to a HP5 (92 lumens). I also put a pair of HP5 into the bottom door lights and a pair of HP3 (56 lumens ea.) into the license plate. The LEDs from Diode Dynamics are of excellent quality and their customer service is very helpful on the phone. I originally ordered warm white, which I didn't like and they issued an RMA with no hassles. Go with Cool white and you will be happy. (Posted on 2/28/15)
2015 Forester XT Review by KevinM.
Value Quality Price
Recently bought the LED kit and i must say I love the look of it. I ordered Stage 2 cool white kit, which is super bright and adds a nice luxury touch. Also note that the LED still has the factory function where it dims slowly then turn off. I notice other LEDs won't dim but just completely turn off. So I really dig this LED kits, very easy to install and the quality of the bulbs are really well made. (Posted on 11/4/14)
Inexpensive, easy to install, and great looking red light Review by Aaron
Quality Price Value
I ordered stage 2 red LEDs for both maps and the dome, but opted for stage 3 for the storage area. Had I read more thoroughly before purchasing, I might have gone stage 2 for the back storage as well, due to stage 3 being an adhesive panel that fits on the outside of the light housing. However, I'm pleased with the quantity of light from the stage 3 red LEDs, and might not have been, with a red stage 2 inside the housing. (I just hope being exposed and subject to two dogs and other fun won't shorten the life...) All in all, I'm satisfied with the products and plan on doing at least the approach lighting in the bottom of the front doors, and perhaps the rest of the non-head lights. (Posted on 10/8/13)
